No, not raindrops on roses or whiskers on kittens — although those are pretty awesome. Today I’m wondering which romance genre is your absolute favourite if you had to pick. It seems to me that in m/m fiction, contemporary reigns supreme with readers and writers. I read in a variety of genres, but if I had to pick, I’d say historical. There’s just a special place in my heart for it, possibly because my first romances were my older sister’s bodice rippers.
I’d love to know your vote and hear your thoughts on romance genres and why some appeal to you more than others.

I’m pretty open to authors hooking me with a great voice/story/character, though I have to say that after a major binge during my formative years, it takes a lot to drag me into any fantasy novel. I suspend disbelief really easily and want to love everything I read.
I try to keep an open mind too. I have a soft spot for historical, but I’ve read great books in all genres. Thanks for commenting, K.A.!
Oh, I should’ve chosen the one about “good stories and good characters and I’m in”. I chose fantasy because I’m into the world building and escapism aspects of that kind of book lately.
That’s okay, fave genre can be an ever-changing thing!
It was hard to choose between fantasy and sci-fi. Those are my combined first love genres for any kind of story, not just romance. A well-built world to support well-written characters is a delight! I will read the occasional contemporary, but it has to be from an author I already love. My reading time is too scarce and precious to risk on something that doesn’t at least come highly recommended by someone whose opinion I trust.
Strong world building is indeed a delight!
I totally hear you on reading time. Definitely too scarce, and I tend to rely on recs and reviews.
Thanks for weighing in, Maia!
